An All Round Gym Playlist

This is what I'll generally throw on my ipod at the gym. Starts off with your pretty fast paced tracks for your cardio then moving into slow, angry rap for lifting before switching it up with some faster paced tracks when that motivation starts to dip.

The indie Bible: Hot Chip

Hot Chip focuses more on song arrangements and structure rather than technology and programming showmanship. It sums up the core of what made The Warning so accessible and enjoyable right from the onset: it's like listening to early New Order records for the first time, waiting for the next one with a little bit of excited anticipation to see what's going to happen next with every new song.

Personal Graduation PLaylist 08'!

These songs represent a variety of feelings knowing this part of my life is coming to an end soon. I am so excited to finally feel that free feeling like I can do anything and everything.. but what pains me the most is the fact that, whether i like it or not, I am getting older and soon I'm going to look back and miss being a careless, happy kid. I can't say that I am going to miss high school very much (besides some cool people I may never see again) ..but I'm guessing it is very rare for a person to honestly say they've enjoyed every minute of it. By the way, I didn't want to add vitamin c's graduation song, but there it is =)

"and In That Moment, I Swear, We Were Infinite."

No one said it had to be superfast techno with bass that makes the road tremble three miles down. Well, okay, but only if you're blasting it ALL that loud. It's an anticipation of summer, with the nostalgia of late August flooding in. This is a song for the sunrise- For driving down an empty Lake Shore Drive with a best friend in the car.
If you know where my title's from, and you know that you can't even begin to categorize infinite, then maybe you'll understand. Hardcore/ Emo, it's all there.

Songs For Whoever

October 2008: A bunch of "The Ballad Of" tracks. This probably works better as a playlist than a mix because it was really, really hard to get the tracks to flow in any sort of way, but it's a bunch of good songs so.

» The beat in the Nick Cave track is awesome, it reminds me of Stevie Nicks' "Edge Of Seventeen." Really catchy and fun, and Betty Coltrane is so badass!

» It always annoys me when I really like a Killers song. I don't know, I always feel like I should hate them but I can't. "The Ballad of Michael Valentine" is so catchy, and I love the vocal rhythm in the the verses and how it's back up by the guitar. (I thought he was saying with your Lemsip and your black tie before I looked up the lyrics.)

» Ryan Adams on "Carol Lynn":

"It was written 30 minutes before recording it while the rest of the band was having supper. It's a first take - all live except for the Civil War-sounding horns. It's very spooky. That's the sound of the church, man. That's the church talking to us. I never was quite sure what the song was about 'cause I recorded it right after writing it, but now I think it might have been a self-criticism whereby I just turned myself into a character and analyzed myself that way. But I don't know for sure. Which is even cooler. Not to know who Carol Lynn is, but still having her speak through you."

I love him so so much. My Ryan love notwithstanding, I think this is a really good song - Ryan's voice is really solid and on the lighter side of strained and gravelly, and the horns and strings are subtle (apart from the obligatory harmonica, which isn't as harsh as you might think) and back him up perfectly. Idk, it's a country-type song for people that aren't really into that sort of thing?

» I still think the video for this song is hilarious. Yes plz, Jimmy Pop. (I'm still not used to watching the unedited version of the video, I still expect to hear now show 'em them [blank noise] now show 'em them [blank noise])

» I really love songs with religious elements in them, though I'm not religious myself. As far as I know, Dar Williams isn't either, and I love how she's taken the relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene and explored her viewpoint. I gave it up and all for love / it was his career or mine and the tenderness I shared with him / became a heresy, I fucking love it. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous folksy-pop song with a really catchy guitar hook.

» Duke Special's voice = ♥ Irish accents make music that much better.

» It took me a while to get into "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" because songs with electronic beats in it really put me off, but the story of suburban frustration keeps me listening. I do prefer the faster video version, though.

» I feel bad for following Rancid up with McFly, but thems the breaks. Tom and Danny's voices are absolutely fabulous (c wat i did thar?) in this. It's a really well-crafted pop song and it makes me heart hurt a little. The video is cool too.

My Life Soundtrack

A few years ago at my Montgomery County Community College days, I had an English teacher who I highly respected. He assigned the class to create a soundtrack of our lives and state why the song is important to us. This assignment was so difficult to complete since music is one of the most important things in my life. I'm not saying that it is the one thing that gets me up in the morning but, friendships are made and broken and relationships form and they fade away...simply it is the only constant thing in my life.

This project originally started with 12 songs but my soundtrack is currently at 50 songs. Below is the exact list of every song. Each song holds a special meaning to me. Most songs are dedicated to certain events that have taken place in my life while others are dedicated to the people in my life that have made great differences in the way I live.

This list is in no certain order.

Unrequited Love-Or Something Like That

he lies and lies....and then finally admits to it. the ultimate message is "i still want you on the back burner-let me do this, but don't go away completely". these all remind me of him and this pathetic, high school-esque situation in some way. Boo-hoo.

Silent Night

I find it impossible to fall asleep without good music, so these are the tracks I put on shuffle when I nod off at night... the list's not too long so that I don't wear out the battery on my MP3 player, but long enough that I don't get woken up by the music stopping!
They're all peaceful, calm tracks that really help relax you. I don't listen to them in the day tho cos I'm too energetic! Enjoy (:

If you only pick three, go for numbers 3, 11 and 28!

A brief description of each track:

1. Retro hit from 1999, I heard it first on Ben Jones' Virgin Radio show and had to download it
2. This song always makes me cry if I'm feeling down cos of a guy! Beautiful lyrics, and without the soaring powerful passages of Beyonce etc which always wake me up.
3. Great when you're trying to calm down and keep your composure... I bet she sang it to herself when she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro!
4. Classic. More of a blues feel to this one - her voice sounds great on this track and I love the rythms it makes.
5. Brilliant lyrics: not-so-subtle dig at the tabloid-headline-grabbing golddigers and a throwback to the days of retro glamour. Her scottish accent is really relaxing too!
6. Not as powerful as some of her tracks, but I find that makes it more relaxing. It reminds that people can still love bits of you that you hate yourself.
7. Beautiful and calm, reminds me not to dwell on the past and instead to make the future perfect.
8. Chris Martin apparently wrote this for his wife after her father died, and for me it's all about knowing that there are people who will always look after you no matter what.
9. She has a stunning voice full of soul, lyrics are simpler than some of the other tracks but her voice just makes it so relaxing.
10. Everyone needs a hero! And Enrique's voice is blissful (:
11. So different to her other stuff, this track is stripped right back to let her vocal melody shine through with a very unobtrusive piano accompaniament.
12. Love this one for the lyrics - "I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket"
13. These girls know how to harmonise! Makes me think that you shouldn't leave your old friends just because of one tiny argument.
14. More beautiful harmonies from the girls! Don't be such a perfectionist when you're analysing your past.
15. After listening to this I can't go to sleep until I've fixed any quarrels i have with my friends. Life's too short to go to bed angry.
16. My favourite - it's got a strong beat going, but it's still really gentle. Like a boat rocking you to sleep (:
17. Beautiful bluesy track with a gently swaying rythm, reminds you you're never alone.
18. The best boy band ever! Lol. This one is purely personal - I played in a concert where a group of lads did an interpretation of it and the lead singer looked and moved exactly like my crush of the time (:
19. Power ballad. I think everyone knows this... but for me it's more about everlasting friendships that romantic relationships.
20. Another powerful one! The melody soars beautifully above the background.
21. A gentle folksy rythm in this. Reminds me that just trying your hardest is all that matters and more important than the end result.
22. Another personal one, I very rarely cry in public so I really relate to these lyrics: "I won't let it show, you won't see me cry"
23. This was also very close to me, when I was trying to get over a guy who I fell for and then treated me bad ):
24. Love the lyrics more than the tune, if all else fails just keep your faith in angels.
25. This actually links back to the same story behind no.24 - I hated the next girl he went for, basically because I couldn't protect her, but after he hurt her bad too we became close and are now best friends (:
26. Kinda embarrassing to admit I love this girl's music!! I'm not so into the lyrics but it's a very calm, relaxing and unobtrusive tune.
27. Sounds pretty much the same as no.26, but these lyrics really hit home - you can't control fate, so relax and enjoy your life (:
28. Stunning, full of soul without being too over-powering. It actually makes me wonder why I ever bother looking for love when it "equals nothing but sadness and pain"
29. Similar sound to no.28 but a little more up-beat, inspires you to stop focussing on the past.
30. Yup I do love this guy!! These last three tracks are all pretty similar, but they're just soooo relaxing.

You Are Indeed A Slightly More Evolved Human....Sorta.

For the days you feel detached from everyone. You feel as though there is something deeper in life than those around you seem to offer. You appear to have a higher intelligence on these days, but your floating around and going nowhere. That is until someone compliments your outfit and you smile and giggle, all the while explaining how you found a really great deal on it at Kohl's.This somehow brings you back to reality.
